Observation
Close-up of a Japanese white pine's spring candles — upright pale buds ringed by a whorl of blue-green needles — against a white wall.

I haven’t documented this tree for a while and only found a single photo on my phone. The candles are nice to watch anyways. I’ll leave these on to grow and may cut the developed branches back later this year (maybe in autumn). For me it is still hard a bit confusing what to do when with the candles. With decidious trees you don’t have this type of struggle, you just cut it down in spring and maybe a bit in autumn.

Observation
A green bush-cricket resting on the blue-green needles of a Japanese white pine, gravel and the pot rim behind.
A pale-green cricket sitting among the needles of a Japanese white pine in a terracotta pot, seen from above over a bed of gravel.

Todays guest: a huge grashopper, maybe 6 to 7cm. Maybe these animals are that large but I just enjoy that he’s around for a while

A Japanese white pine bonsai with tufts of blue-green needles on tiered branches and a single upright trunk, in a terracotta pot on a metal bench.

This is a tree I got from a garden centre and when I got it I cut off some branches at points where I had to many to prevent it from swelling. The trees trunk is pretty thick so I’m not sure if I’d be able to bend it. For this tree I also have no real plan. At one point I thought the left hand bottom branch could make a cascade somehow but I’m afraid I know to little about cascade trees and how to make them, so the tree will stay more or less the way it is.
